Small Commissions

05 March 2017 Barry Semegran 20

The process of creating a piece of furniture to the customer's specifications can often involve not only the art and craft of woodworking, but also the art of pleasing all involved. We all can enjoy the process of envisioning an object and then bringing it into material existence. If I can make a living, be happy creating, and the customer gets what he and/or she wants for an agreed upon price, then the commission is successful.

This red oak jewelry box is dyed red and features red velvet lined drawers with removable dividers.  It also features swing out wings for chain and necklace storage.  The upper portion is scroll saw work of a scene in silhouette of desert mountains and saguaro cactus.

The client wanted to heighten the interest of the soapdish next to the sink.  I placed it in a madrone tree knot/burl.
