Double Tabletop Bookstand

Mahogany goblet
This wood from South and Central America has one of the highest tannin contents of any lumber in the world.  The lid and vessel are made from this wood but the lid was turned much earlier and allowed to let its tannin darken the surface.  The vessel was freshly turned and finish applied.  Eventurally, lid and vessel will darken to a similar shade.  The lid's handle is cocobolo. 

Quebrecho Lidded Vessel
This sculpture uses a rather large redwood knot/branch remnant I recovered from a stream bed behind my house.  Years of rushing water and tumbling rocks smoothed its surfaces.  I mounted it on a manzanita twig attached to a small redwood log cross section.   

The Thing in Itself
This lidded box is made of cherry with mirror and solid brass hinge. The cover features the beautiful floral art of Adelle Platt. (floral beauty above facial beauty below Who’s the fairest of them all? poem by barry semegran)

Chere Rose
This sculpture was suggested by the rough shape of this piece of Mendocino Cypress in my firewood pile.  This face shows the sea horses carved into the surface.

Shooting Horses
This pair of arts and crafts style lamps is made from quartersawn red oak and stained glass with a three way switch.

Ray Fleck's Lamps
This shows the gun bas relief carved into this piece of Mendocino Cypress.  The wood's overall rough shape suggested to me the sea horse and gun shapes that I carved into it.

Chain saw carved boletus mushroom(King Boletus) from a Bishop pine root. (a lump in a needlestack, bishop pine forest floor, the king in hiding - barry semegran)

This wall hanging is my haiku carved into a cross section of a mesquite limb(the sun\'s energy captured in wood). The gate is made from west coast claro walnut, the sun\'s rays are tiger maple, and the background is brushed copper. 16 inches wide x 11 inches high x 2 inches deep.
